Dad lived in the same house in Grove Road, Wallasey, between 1964 and 1986. He did not retire from what had been the family business, which went into decline in this time, much to his regret (and incomprehension). All three of his children married in 1981 and 1982, and he did live to see his first grandchild born.
Very sadly, he suffered a fatal heart attack while loading cases into his car in the driveway of his home, as I related in “The day it happened”. He was 64 years old, and still working full-time. His funeral proved to be one of the largest that Wallasey has witnessed, matching his great-grandfather Joseph’s.
